The UK Army Roll of Honour notes that 14343871 Rifleman Ronald Marchant of the Queen's Westminster and Civil Service Rifles, died on the 26th June 1941. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission, however, records that he served with the 12th (2nd Bn. The Queen's Westminsters) Battalion,King's Royal Rifle Corps and died on the 26th June 1944. He was 21 years old, the son of Alfred and Angelina Marchant of Brighton, Sussex and the husband of Constance Freda Marchant of Brighton. He is buried in St. Manvieu War Cemetery in Cheux, France.
Coincidentally, another R Marchant also died on the 26th June. R/92040 Flight Sergeant Robert Cresswell Marchant of the Royal Canadian Air Force died on the same day in 1942. He was 23 years old, the son of Herbert and Nellie Marchant of Shalalth, British Columbia, Canada. He is buried in Terschelling (West Terschelling)General Cemetery in Friesland, Holland.
