7374015 Pte Kenneth Laycock, RAMC

 
Today marks the seventieth death anniversary of 7374015 Private Kenneth Laycock of the Royal Army Medical Corps.  He was born in Bradford and was living there when he enlisted.  The Commonwealth War Graves Commission notes that he was serving with the 197th Field Ambulance at the time of his death and that he is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.  The Army Roll of Honour notes that he died whilst serving in Malaya.

4858147 Pte Edwin Bollington, 1st Bn, Leics Regt

4858147 Private Edwin Bollington of the 1st Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment died on the 14th December 1941. He was 22 years old, the stepson of Frederick Wilkinson of Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire. He is commemorated on Column 65 of the Singapore Memorial.

56815 Capt Cecil D Pickersgill, RE

56815 Capt Cecil Douglas Pickersgill of the 287th Field Company, Royal Engineers, died on the 24th October 1943. He was born and raised in Durham. Captain Pickersgill has no known grave and is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.

5829642 Pte Victor J Devonshire, 4th Bn, Suffolk Regt

5829642 Private Victor James Devonshire of the 4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, died at sea on the 16th September 1944. He was presumably also buried at sea and is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial. He was 25 years old, the son of James and Ada Devonshire of Upper Holloway, London.

5112680 Pte Victor Dunne, 1/5th Bn, Sherwood Foresters

5112680 Private Victor Dunne of the 1/5th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters, died on the 16th July 1943. He was 23 years old, the son of Mary Anne Dunne of Erdington, Birmingham. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.

Victor is pictured above in the middle row, fifth from right.  This photo was sent to me by his great nephew, Martin Skellum.  Also remembering, Allen Fredrick Whyley, Martin's father-in-law and another old Sherwood Forester who died recently. (Post updated 18th October 2012).

1470551 Gunner Adrian Martainsz Anthonisz of 3 HAA Regiment, Royal Artillery, died on the 23rd June 1944. He was a Singapore National, the husband of R S Anthonisz of Singapore. Adrian was 22 years old when he died, and he is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.

7532504 Lance-Corporal Martin Phillip Klyne of the Royal Army Medical Corps, died on the 22nd May 1943. He was born in Malaya and was living there when Britain went to war. He died whilst serving with the 1st (Malay) Field Ambulance and is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial. He was the son of Mr and Mrs H M Klyne of Singapore.

2082504 Lance-Sergeant Hubert Cowell Mulkern of the 5th Searchlight Regiment, Royal Artillery, died on the 9th February 1942. He was 24 years old and the son of Alfred Courtney Mulkern and Adeline Marguerite Mulkern of Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey. He had originally enlisted with the Royal Engineers and later transferred to the Royal Artillery.

Hubert Mulkern has no known grave and is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial.

5831141 Private Joseph Arthur Bolden of the 2nd Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment, died on the 27th January 1942. He was born in Essex but living in Hertfordshire when he enlisted. He was 25 years old when he died and, having no known grave, is commeorated on the Singapore Memorial in the Kranji War Cemetery in Singapore.

37-year-old 748096 Gunner Edward Maley of the 80th Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery, died on the 5th January 1942. He was the son of James and Isabella Maley and the husband of Elizabeth Maley of Glasgow.

Gunner Maley has no known grave and is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial in the Kranji War Cemetery in Singapore.
