80362 Lieutenant John Sharman Franey MC of the Royal Artillery, died on the 16th February 1940. He was the son of John Sharman Franey and Mary Ethelind Franey and was a career soldier, having served as a Lieutenant, and later acting captain, with the Royal Field Artillery during the First World War. His surviving medal index card at the National Archives indicates that he had been overseas since the 15th January 1915 and the award of the Military Cross dates to the Great War. It was gazetted on the 31st May 1918.
Lt Franey died in England and is buried in Effingham (Our Lady of Sorrows) Roman Catholic Churchyard.
