Two hundred and eighty British Army officers and men died on this single day in 1942 and John Sakne was one of these men. He was 29 years old and attached to the Royal Army Medical Corps at the time of his death. He was the son of Theodore and Elizabeth Sakne of Liverpool, and the husband of Ivy Sakne, of Waterloo, Liverpool. He is buried in the Kranji War Cemetery in Malaysia.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
