4694120 Pte Harry Moore, 1/4th Bn, KOYLI

4694120 Private Harry Moore of the 1/4th Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, died in Iceland on the 21st January 1942. Harry was a Yorkshireman, born in Leeds, and was 26 years old when he died.

He was one of a platoon of men men who died when they were hiking in the mountains around Reydarfjordur and got lost in a sudden winter storm. Forty-eight men survived, but Harry was one of eight men who did not. The other men who died are:

The men are all buried in the Reydarfjordur Cemetery in the east of that country.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

I've been working on a documentary film about the incident that led to the tragic death of Private Harry Moore and seven of his comrades in January 1942. Any information about him or any information relating to this incident would be highly appreciated. We aim to show the film on Icelandic TV early 2011.
